Huddersfield
Shopping
Huddersfield has plenty to offer shoppers, from a busy market hall and regular specialist markets, to designer boutiques and all the leading retail outlets in its two shopping centres. And surrounding areas like Marsden and Holmfirth have plenty to offer in their independent stores and gift shops. The Mill in Batley is the largest retail mill in the UK, and Homlfirth’s Springfield Mills currently has twenty stores with plans to expand.
For the leading retail outlets and major brand stores, the Kingsgate Centre at the bottom of King Street has more than thirty stores and half a dozen cafes and bars. Parking is free on Sundays, and there are 650 spaces. The centre is open seven days a week, from 9am until 5:30pm during the week, and closing an hour earlier on Sundays.
The Byram Arcade is a shopping and office complex on Byram Street, a short stroll from the train station. The Victorian building is home to a number of small, independent retailers, selling clothes, books, gifts and music, and there is a restaurant on the ground floor.
The Packhorse centre is home to a number of budget stores, trading in clothes, jewellery and gifts. There are also grocery stores and a butchers.
There are a variety of markets trading in Huddersfield, and something going on every day of the week. Huddersfield Queensgate Market is a large, indoor market, selling clothes, food, jewellery and more. There is also a café and hairdressers on site. The open market offers a range of stalls and goods, and is located in an iron, restored Victorian shelter in the city centre.
Huddersfield Market Hall was listed for the architectural distinction of its ornate roof, and can be found in the city centre by the Town Hall and central library. This market is open every day, and when full, comprises more than 300 stalls.
Specialist markets are organised at various times through the year, including Farmers’ Markets selling locally produced food. Holmfirth hosts a Farmers’ Market throughout the week.
