Huddersfield

Restaurants

In many ways, Huddersfield restaurants and cafes showcase the best of the north. Priding themselves on providing a choice of ‘traditional Yorkshire’ or the chic and modern, Huddersfield restaurants offer something to suit every palate.

Enjoy real ale, Yorkshire tea and home-baked cakes in one of the city’s many cafes or tea rooms; continental coffees and exotic dishes in one of the contemporary restaurants; or quality meals and real ale in one of the city centre pubs. Yorkshire puddings and Parkin are available in most tearooms; and there are all the curry houses and Balti restaurants that Yorkshire is notorious for!

The annual Huddersfield Food and Drink Festival, hosted each Summer, provides an opportunity to sample dishes from around the world as well as locally grown produce, real ale and cider.

Huddersfield has plenty of cheap Indian restaurants and curry houses to choose from. Kebabeesh on Westgate has a good reputation for the quality of its food and service. Prices are very reasonable and tables can be reserved by calling 01484 513 015. Close by are Elahi Tandoori on Market Street, and Shabab on New Street.

For Mediterranean or contemporary British dishes in a relaxed, owner-run restaurant, Bradley’s is on Fitzwilliam Street in the city centre. Prices are reasonable and tables can be reserved by calling 01484 516 773.

The Olive Branch, in Marsden, not far from the city centre, serves contemporary British dishes. Prices are high, but the quality of the food is beyond question and the restaurant has been listed in the Good Food Guide on more than one occasion. The menu has an incredible variety and selection to choose from; and the restaurant boasts views of miles of countryside.

The elegant, Grade II listed, 3* hotel, The George, contains a newly refurbished restaurant serving traditional English food. The restaurant is open late seven days a week, and non-hotel guests are welcome.

Cragrats in a fine dining restaurant located out of town in Holme Valley, not far from Holmfirth. The restaurant is chic and modern, with leather and suede furnishings, and an unusual and high quality menu. Food is served between 12 and 9pm, and tables can be reserved by calling 01484 683775.

A few miles away, on Huddersfield Road in Holmfirth proper, is the Wrinkled Stocking Tearoom, a must-see for Last of the Summer Wine fans!
