Huddersfield

Pubs and Bars

Huddersfield is home to an increasing number of cafes and bars, reflecting a growing café-culture in the region. New, fashionable bars and pubs are increasingly opening up in the city as the student population grows. As found in other modern cities, there are a number of venues in Huddersfield that are seeking to blur the distinction between club, pub and music venue.

There are bars such as Vox Bar, that provide a variety of unusual cocktails and international beers, as well as real ale and meals, with a soundtrack of the latest continental, chillout music.

Huddersfield has an abundance of real ale pubs, including a number of bars that even brew their own ale. The Rat and Ratchet is one example, offering an impressive range of home-brewed ales. Real ale from the area is usually celebrated in the city’s annual food festival. CAMRA has official acknowledged the quality and variety of real ales served in The Sair Inn, in Linthwaite, with its award; and the Rose and Crown in Holmfirth has been recognized in the last thirty editions of the Good Beer Guide.

The Grove Inn, on Spring Grove, was awarded CAMRA’s Pub of the Season in 2006 for its incredible selection of continental, European and locally brewed beers, including those bottled and on draught.

Huddersfield has branches of all the leading pub chains, including Wetherspoons and O’Neills. The latter is an Irish pub on Queensgate that serves food.

There is also a Revolution Vodka Bar, popular with students and young professionals, serving a variety of vodkas. The bar is located on Cross Church Street in the city centre, and entry is free every night. Food is served during the day, and there are DJs every night, including a resident and various guests. There is comfortable indoor and outdoor seating, and the bar has a late license, closing at 1:30am during the week and 2am on the weekend.
