Bradford

Introduction

Bradford is a city with a population of just less than three hundred thousand, and almost two hundred thousand more living in the surrounding villages and towns that make up the remainder of the metropolitan borough.

Proud of its long and important history, Bradford is home to a number of important historical buildings and sites; including one of only two World Heritage Sites in Yorkshire, and the most visited museum outside of London. The thirteenth-century cathedral located in the city centre is an attraction worth visiting the city for in itself! Many other ancient mills and factories have been converted into modern developments, with apartments, offices, shops, and ensuring that the city continues to develop and sustain its place as a contemporary British city.

Other than its heritage, Bradford has plenty to offer those seeking cultural entertainment, with its range of art galleries and theatres. Home to a range of intimate and grand theatre performance spaces, including the architectural wonder that is the Alhambra Theatre in the city centre, and a number of smaller venues with commitments to showcasing new writing. The city has a large, civic art gallery, set in picturesque countryside alongside an adventure playground and boating lake, making it a popular choice for a family afternoon out. There are also numerous other art exhibition venues around the city, displaying a variety of works and exploring a range of themes and mediums.

The city is also home to a thriving nightlife. With an array of nightclubs, live music venues, pubs, cocktail bars and award-winning restaurants, Bradford is a popular choice for nights out in the region.

Hundreds of millions of pounds have poured into the city for redevelopment, and the funding continues to flow, giving the area the exciting up-and-coming feel to be found in many Northern areas. With city centre shopping developments and office complexes planned for the next few years, improvements are expected in Bradford’s economic situation, and the city only going to increase in popularity.
