Barnsley
Restaurants
There is a broad selection of cafes, tearooms and restaurants in Barnsley town centre, and development of the area is encouraging new investment from restaurateurs. Many of the new, stylish venues are combining live music with dining, and one or two even host club nights on the premises in the evenings. It goes without saying that Barnsley also has its fair share of fast food restaurants and pubs serving food.
The China Court Restaurant on Hamble Court is a family-run business, serving high quality, authentic Chinese dishes at reasonable prices. The restaurant is frequently praised for its food, ambience and service. A takeaway service is available by calling 01226 390118.
Amongst others, China Moon on Peel Street and New Jade Palace on Shambles Street also serve quality Chinese food and offer a takeaway service.
There are around half a dozen Indian restaurants in Barnsley town centre, including the Arisa Tandoori Express on Doncaster Road, and the India Gardens Balti House in Peel Square. One of the most popular of these restaurants is the Jalsa on Pitt Street, with a bar and separate seating area.
There are fewer Italian restaurants in the town centre, but there are a number of pizzerias. The most popular Italian restaurant is probably Franklin’s Italian Restaurant and Take Away on Peel Street; and Pinnochio’s Pizzeria on New Street is a busy pizzeria not far away.
The Citrus Rooms is a bar, café and music venue complex on Eastgate, with modern, stylish décor and a relaxed atmosphere. Snacks and meals are prepared by an in-house chef, using local ingredients, and menus are soon to be available online. The café is available for hire for private functions and conferences, with a catered meal or buffet as optional.
The Lucorum complex is home to an award-winning café, bar and restaurant, as well as a beauty salon and hairdressers. Upstairs is the Latinos Mediterranean Restaurant, serving a range of Mediterranean and European cuisine, prepared by an experienced head chef. The last Saturday of each month has the theme of a European or Mediterranean country, with special menus serving cuisines of the themed country.
The Mediterranean restaurant is open Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 7pm. The Deli is open Monday to Saturday until 3pm, and serves a range of traditional British dishes. Sandwiches are also available Monday to Saturday until 6pm, and all are prepared to order by the Head Chef. The lounge and restaurant are available for hire.
