Barnsley

Nightclubs

A town with no universities, Barnsley has only three dedicated nightclubs; but there are club nights held regularly in other venues around the town.

Club Hedonism on Wellington Street attracts clubbers from all around to north of England and presents commercial dance, R’n’B, chart and club classics over the weekend, and rock on Monday nights. There are usually plenty of drinks offers, and those with VIP cards are entitled to free entry and free drinks (conditions apply). The club is found on the upper floor of the building, with the Chicago Rock Café downstairs serving meals to the sounds of DJs playing singalong tunes seven days a week.

Heaven and Hell on Regent Street, part of a larger franchise, delivers electro house, hardstyle, hard trance, funky and electro techno music, and much more. Built over two floors, the club holds 2500 people and is one of only three Heaven and Hell clubs left in the UK after financial difficulties forced the others to close.

The Citrus Rooms (on Eastgate) comprises a bar, nightclub and café, and is rapidly gaining a reputation as one of the most fashionable venues in Barnsley for young professionals. The three rooms feature modern, stylish décor and music is alternative, indie and rock.

Livingstones Club on Peel Street is open three nights a week, in two rooms, playing party anthems, hip-hop and R’n’B. The club is separated into two levels, each with its own atmosphere. The ground floor is a large room, opening out on to the road, with a beer garden and projection screens. Upstairs in room two is Club Casbah, a smaller area with comfortable seating, two plasma screens and a balcony. Every Friday and Saturday night is Go Wild, which is free to non-members before 10:30pm; and Wednesday is Flirt.

The Lucorum complex is home to an award-winning café, bar and restaurant, as well as a beauty salon and hairdressers. The bar area also hosts live music events and club nights, and is home to HedKandi, Redlight, Funk Deluxe and Retrospective. Galaxy 105 recently voted the night at Lucorom Best Club Night in the North of England. The building itself is nineteenth century, with most of its original features restored, and can be found on Hanson Street in the town centre.
